'40-40 Failed' Kim Do-young, MVP is 'Steamed' unanimous vote is 'Well'... '5 Kings' Lee Jung-hoo '97.2%' vote

Kim Do-young (21) of the KIA Tigers, who showed a brilliant performance in the 2024 season, has effectively given his name to the MVP trophy. The key is how many votes he will receive.

The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) finally confirmed and announced its MVP candidates on the 2nd. Eighteen people with the best performance and excellent performances in each league category were selected as MVP candidates this season, and Kim Do-young was listed along with teammates James Nail and Jung Hae-young.

In his third year as a pro, Kim played in 141 games and posted a batting average of 0.347 (189 hits in 544 at-bats) with 38 homers, 109 RBIs, 143 runs, 40 steals, and OPS of 1.067. He topped the scoring and slugging percentage categories, which is the KBO's award-winning record, becoming the only player to win two awards in total. In addition, he topped in the triples (10 hits), total Ruta (352 hits), slugging percentage (0.647), and OPS. He also ranked second in homers, third in on-base hits, sixth in stolen bases, 먹튀검증 and tied for seventh in RBIs in most other indicators.

There is no disagreement that Kim Do-young is the 0th most likely MVP candidate, but it is unclear whether he will be able to become a unanimous MVP. On the batter's side, Koo Ja-wook of the Samsung Lions (batting average of 0.343 33 home runs, 115 RBIs and 13 steals OPS 1.044), the overwhelming home run king NC Dinos Matt Davidson (batting average of 0.306 46 home runs, 119 RBIs and OPS 1.003), and Victor Reyes of the Lotte Giants (batting average of 0.352 15 home runs and 111 RBIs and OPS 0.904), who achieved the most hits in a single season (202), are also considered potential candidates for votes. On the pitcher's side, NC Kyle Hart (13 wins, 3 losses, 2.69 ERA), who once sought to win four gold medals but unfortunately only took the strikeout title, stands out.

Starting with 10 homers and 10 steals per month for the first time in the KBO League, Kim joined the 20-20 club (the fifth time ever), the minimum number of at-bats (four times at bat) natural cycling hits, the youngest among 30 homers and 30 steals, the youngest among them in a single season (Lee Seung-yeop's 32 homers in 1997), the youngest record of 30 homers and 30 steals and 100 RBIs and 100 runs scored (the third time ever) in a single season. As Kim is considered the top contributor to KIA's regular season win, he must have had many extra points in voting for MVP. If he had joined the 40-40 club, unanimous agreement might not have been his dream.

The unanimous MVP in the history of the KBO League was only Park Cheol-soon (OB Bears) in 1982, the first year of professional baseball. At that time, Park recorded 24 wins, four losses, seven saves and an ERA of 1.84 including 22 consecutive wins, and was the sole MVP candidate, winning the honor unanimously without voting against him. Since then, no unanimous MVP has been awarded.
